So another year is coming to a close, and I sit here and reflect on this events over the last year and think about the years prior and if anything I’ve set out to do has been accomplished. Every year people do this yet, after a week or so for so many it just goes in one ear and out the other, and as each days passes by, their concern seems to fall on the own deaf ears.
Maybe it just me, but every year I look back and think about whether or not I made a difference in the lives that I have touched, and reflect back on those that have made a difference on mine. The read somewhere that life is nothing more than a cycle one lives through with changing variable that make it appear to be linear, but more or less still a cycle, whether it be every year or every 4 years. I think I have narrowed mine down to every 5 years (I think). Anyway I have my own thoughts on that subject but that’s for another day. So I’m sitting at work right now and I’m thinking about this last year and have come to the conclusion that other than the fact it seemed to go by quite quickly, it was by far a disappointing year looking back on it. Granted I had my highlights, here and there, almost like the saying of “with the good, comes the bad” well all I can say is I’m glad it works in reverse as well “with the bad, comes some good”.
So here are the highs and lows of my year that I can think of and tell me how you’d rank my year.
- Cass and I make up as friends after 6 months of not talking
- Move in with Co-worker Brian to offset some bills
- Car is broken into and stereo and gun are stolen
- Discovered that the Motorcycle I purchased was previously registered in California and the owner is now dead and am unable to now register it in Arizona.

- I win my 1st SCCA race of the day, in which all whom I invited failed to appear except for Erica
- Heather and I make plans to get an apartment together
- I stop driving Brian to work since his foot/ankle is actually only severely sprained and he’s now driving himself around after work to get drunk
- I teach Erica how to drag race her car.
- I blow 2 tires on the way to work and get fired from my job for being excessively late, due to my managers request, stating to make it a point to bring Brian to work while his leg is broken.
- I’m unemployed for a month.
- I suggest kicking Brian out, as he is constantly late on the rent
- I get another job working for a EffectNet, with Brian and some other old co-workers, even though message passed to Brian in regards to my interview was intercepted by Brian, thus taking my position, but I got the job anyway.
- Given the choice of a concrete wall or the ground, I opted for the ground while rollerblading, leaving a strawberry from my knee to my ankle, which has yet to heal completely after 6 months.
- Brian decides he is going to move out 2wks before rent is due.

- Heather and I talk again after a month
- I watch the diamondback when the world series with Tom, Carrie, and Kid
- The insurance company neglects to pick up my car and am given a chance to get it back
- Due to getting a late message the insurance company has now picked up the car 30 minutes before I confirm the fact I can purchase it back by paying off the tow companies holding fees for a total of $200.
- Tom and I start playing racquetball
- Heather and I don’t talk anymore, for still a unspoken/acknowledged reason
- I nearly die after, sliding across a frozen road and am saved by a snowman built on the edge of a cliff
- I have my 1st Thanksgiving away from home due to work
- I spend another lonely, but this time sleepless Christmas back home
- The car I’m borrowing from my mom dies the day I get back.
So that just about sums it up for the most part. So you be the judges, if any actually read this, how would you rank my year.
All I can say is I pray the worst is over and that this year will bring better fortunes, and experiences.
hmm.. you’re right. with a year like that you’d really wish the worst is over. anyway, today i wish you a simple joy that lasts, love that doesn’t end, blessings to share, and beautiful memories to remember. happy 2002!
