Super Bowl XLIII

superbowl-header

It was not just another Superbowl Sunday here in the Valley of the Sun, it was our time to shine, or at least for the Cardinals fans and those who jumped on the bandwagon and road it all the way to Tampa at the last minute.  steelers-winAnd shine it did all the way up to the last 2 minutes of the game, and then the shine well it turned more of a wet glossy look and then liquefied for some, and for others well they’re probably wishing they never took the tags of those jerseys they bought last week from Sports Authority and Champs, and especially all that knock off crap from the guys parked out on every corner the last week or so.  With that last statement I’ll quit hating on them, granted I live here here I’m far from a Cardinals fan.

Hell the only remote team I root for is the Oakland Raiders and that was because I was from there, but after their depressing performance at their last Superbowl performance I’ve definitely come to realize i really don’t like watching pro sports unless it has to do with machines i.e. supercross, motogp, nascar, SCCA, etc. The reason behind you may ask, is simple. In all these sports the participant is going for broke for that moment to take the lead, get the points, whatever it may be. In pro sports there is too much conservative plays. Every kid growing up who’s played baseball , football, even soccer has imagines those final seconds going for that outlandish last minute who would a thought it flee flicker-reverse-triple deek, game winning drive, shot, or kick. Well guess what it appears those moments rarely happen anymore, at least in the pro’s they don’t. Now in college you see those plays all the time especially towards the end of the year. The reason behind that is simple, they have nothing to lose, they’re not getting paid. At worse they mess the play up and it gets seen on ESPN and overall they get noticed. Hmmm sounds like good advertising to me.

Anyway it was good game, though the 1st TD attempt should have been run in and not passed which in turn we all saw lead to an interception that was run all the way back for a Steelers TD. I mean really, you controlled the field that entire drive based on ground play, and now that you’re less than a foot away you wanna change it up. Look how well that worked out for ya.

So as soon as I saw that i knew it was gunna be a long game for the cards and tried to stay awake for the commercials. That is until the “Springsteer” tried to rock out out like Jack and Diane from the great heartbeat of the 80’s. Thus is what led me to make this post, besides the fact that I’ve been sick the last week and am really trying to keep up with updating the site at least weekly.

Anyway I digress, I’ve noticed here lately starting with our company holiday party that “our” parents and by that I mean the baby boomers are trying desperately to make a last stand in society instead of letting there grip on the vast majority of buying community being the 30 somethings take over, and tonight was the solidification of this notion. Bruce Springsteen and the e street band was the headliners for the halftime show, but did you notice who the majority of the crowd that was down next to the stage was, you guessed it our parents, and you could tell it was our parents because…well it looked like the same crowd from the a Bon Jovi “Livin On a Prayer” video footage just aged a bit more, I came to this conclusion when they kept panning to a 40plus something lady ina red halter top, trying to rock out like she used to but things were really where they used to be and the moves just weren’t there anymore. The same went for our company holiday party that was privileged to rock out with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

I mean really the companies that are paying for these things and buying ad time during these events are targeting us the 30 somethings, but guess what we don’t wanna see Bruce Springsteen trying to rock out and get stuck on his knees trying to impress the blonde in the 3rd row like it was 1985 again. 1st off that blonde probably has 2 kids well into there 20’s and i doubt things are gonna getting excited without some prescription assistance. Now I’m all for the boomers to rock on in there own events, but come on let the mainstream have there day. you parents did it for you and now it’s time for you to do it for us, it’s not like we’re gonna stick you on a ice float and let you off in the middle of the night. But I for damn sure won’t be spurring the comeback of the economy to pay $400 for a Superbowl tickets to be entertained by an overage 80’s rocker.

Now it could be the whole Janet /JT thing is still going on in people heads, but at the same time our company is still making fun of it, and all of our commercials are getting approval to be played. So come on Superbowl, don’t make me start a Boredom boycott, keep us entertained it’s time to rejuvenate the whole essence of the Superbowl and start catering to the younger crowds. call up Rhianna and TI, T-Pain, The Killers, My chemical Romance, anyone under the age of 40 and liven things up again. But I swear to you if next year they try and pull out Gun and Roses and U2 or dare I say even Michael Jackson, I’m done I will officially start boycotting the whole damn thing.

And with that I will cap this evening off with a Nyquil SoCO nightcap and see ya when I see ya.

Oh and BTW IMHO, all the commercials sucked except for the movie trailers and even the worst of them was funnier than the bud commercials and dare i say even my own companies
